Why Is The Site Called “Life After Joseph”?
The LDS church stands or falls on the validity of Joseph Smith as a prophet of God. When you are LDS, your whole life revolves around his teachings. Upon leaving the LDS church, it nearly always requires building a new life… spiritually, emotionally, mentally, relationally… many times even financially. There IS life after leaving the teachings of Joseph Smith and the subsequent LDS church prophets. This website is dedicated to helping those who are going through that process find this life in a new, rational, and profoundly fulfilling belief in God, Jesus, and the Bible.
Who writes the blog?
The blog on LifeAfterJoseph.org is written by the website’s founder, Brad Thompson. Brad spent 35 years as an active member of the LDS church before the Lord led him to the truthfulness of the Bible and the realization that the LDS church is not all that it claims to be. The blog is an ongoing journal of his life… from leaving Mormonism, attending a Christian school of Ministry, and his daily journey of living a Christian life. You can read the short version of his journey out of Mormonism here. If you are interested in the long version, check out the book he’s written on this page. There is a complete free preview available there as well.
Our Background
Those behind the scenes of Life After Joseph are all former members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Our Mission
Our mission is actually very similar to the mission of LDS missionaries. You see, at the heart of the LDS message is that all religions are wrong except for Mormonism. Out of a strong passion and belief in this message, LDS missionaries and members work very hard to spread their message among all people and religions, letting people know that they’ve been misled and teaching them what they feel is the true gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our mission is similar, albeit with a different understanding of the Gospel. It is our goal to share with those of the LDS faith that the LDS church is not all that it claims to be, and assist them through the process of coming to terms with that.
We do not seek to force our message into the lives of the LDS people through such means as picketing their functions, distributing tracts, or knocking on doors. Instead, we let God do the work of drawing people out of the church by leading them to material that will help them begin to see that the LDS church is not all that it claims to be. We exist to support and educate those who have begun the process of questioning and seeking truth.
Our Motivation
The LDS church has overcomplicated the plan of salvation to the point that its members miss the point, and miss out on the simple acceptance of Jesus’ free gift of salvation. Our motivation is to spread the good news of the true Gospel message to the LDS people and introduce them to the freedom and peace to be found in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
